OpenAI Released 220 Gold Prompts. Dig In.
Would you like to see great prompts used by different professionals in multiple industries, written by the best and most experienced people on the planet?
OpenAI just released a list of over 200 of those, with the entire prompt and all the attachments and how they were used.
It’s NOT a "list of 200 prompts you must use today". I don’t like those at all!
It is an insightful database to dig into, start a conversation and get inspired.
What's in the database
The database includes 220 prompts organised by sector, occupation, the prompt itself, and the files that got attached to each (yes!).
For example, one task for accountants starts: "You are a mid-level tax preparer at an accounting firm." The prompt then explains the context and what needs to be done to create an individual tax return. The database includes all the attachments that were provided: mortgage interest forms, wage statements, tax forms, and other supporting documents.
There are tasks for accountants and auditors, compliance officers, financial managers, and even film and video editors. One prompt reads: "You're a video editor in California and one of your clients is an agency specialising in progressive social political campaigns." Interesting.
Some prompts are long and detailed, some are brief. All of them show real-world professional tasks with the actual prompts and files used.
The research behind it
Why did OpenAI share all of this? Here's the context.
OpenAI released a research paper called the GDPval. They selected 44 occupations from the top nine industries contributing to US GDP. They then crafted 1,320 tasks written by experts. The database of 220 is a subset of those.
They gave the tasks to multiple AIs and to humans. Then they had other humans blindly compare the results and determine which was better, equal, or worse.
GPT-5 performed better than or equal to humans on 38.8% of the tasks. Claude did so 47.6% of the tasks.
That means that we can for approx 30 USD per month we can have an employee that does a task better than all our other employees 38% of the time, does it 100 times faster and keeps getting better all the time. Would you hire them? I know I would.
The details by profession
If you’re curious like me, you can dig into the actual research paper with much more detail. One interesting bit for me is where they show the breakdown for each specific industry and profession.
The charts show how each AI model did compared to the humans.
GPT5 and Claude are consistently the top performers.
This is before Gemini 3 got released, so Google platform users, you are not behind!
Where AI excels and struggles
The research also describes what kinds of tasks AI did better at.
GPT-5 excelled on accuracy but not on presentation, whereas Claude excelled in presentation as well.
We know that presentation, formatting, and organising information is something they get better at all the time, so we can see the trend and where this is going.
What to do with all of this
For me, the numbers aren't what matters. AI improves quickly. Today's 38% is tomorrow's 75%.
What matters is the list of tasks and how we can use it to inspire our teams today.
Sit with your team and dig into those prompts. See what you can learn from them and how you can prompt better. Look for tasks you didn't think of using AI for. Have a look at the tasks listed for your profession, and at the professions of your clients, and explore what it means for them.
Have fun, and let me know what you find.
