Your clients have Copilot too. Are you ahead of them?
My accountant asked me to review the activity statement.
Usually when they ask me to do this, I go into the accounting app and I spot check transactions.
I look for big amounts, I look for suppliers that should be with GST or without.
Really, I am not entirely sure how to know that I covered everything.
So this time...
One prompt
This time I downloaded the activity statement from my accounting app.
It gave me a spreadsheet with sheets for Transactions by tax rate, by BAS field, all sorts.
And instead of starting to read everything myself, I went to my Copilot (or Claude, it doesn't matter) and asked it:
"My accountant asked me to review this activity statement. Can you add a review sheet at the top and review it for me? Tell me what I need to be aware of and to know."
And off we went.
(Everything you see in the video is anonymised. Nothing personal or real there.)
What came back
A review sheet at the top of the workbook.
What the statement says I owe. Whether it agrees to the transaction report (it did). A loan drawing, marked high priority. Prior period amounts pulled into this quarter. And a list of questions to put to my accountant.
I still did my spot check. But I felt a lot more informed.
And I was also wondering… Why did my AI find issues that my accountant missed?
Why did it raise questions my accountant did not raise with me?
Your clients have Copilot too
If I'm doing this, other business owners are starting to do it too.
Not because they don't trust you.
Because it helps them do what you’ve asked: review.
And it is not just the BAS.
We business owners now ask AI:
Explain this financial statement to me.
Look at my tax return, is there anything my accountant may have missed?
My accountant prepared this advice letter for me. Be my second opinion, what do you think?
Here is an engagement letter, here is the transcript of our call, did they cover everything they promised?
Not just accountants, any service provider should ask these questions before sending anything to their clients.
This is what your clients expect now
So here is what I now expect from my accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer, or as a CEO from anyone in my team presenting any work to me.
That they have already done this.
That when I run my review, I find nothing.
That the questions I would have asked are already answered in the pack they send me.
Are you doing this before you ask your clients to review?
Are you suggesting to them that they use AI to review your work?
Stay a step ahead
How do we do this?
Run the review before they do.
Ask your AI to take the role of your client and look at your work.
This is an early majority activity.
It is becoming mainstream. Not for the few ahead.
If you want to do this together with me and 150 other accountants, join us in the AI for Accountants Club. We're doing all of these things together, in so many different ways.
I'll see you there.
We've got this.
